Frequently Asked Questions
Does shaking work on cartridges with a nearly dead imaging drum in the SCX-4725?
Handle the SCX-D4725A gently outside the SCX-4725: give it a slow rock rather than shaking it hard, and keep it clear of your clothes — toner stains stubbornly. Do the job over a trash can or old newspaper so any loose dust is contained. If toner reaches your skin, wash with cool water.
How do I check the manufacturing date on a SCX-D4725A cartridge for the SCX-4725?
On a SCX-D4725A for the SCX-4725, the chip isn't what limits shelf life — the mechanical seals and the photosensitive drum are the parts that age. A cartridge that's sat sealed for years tends to either work normally or show obvious defects on its first pages. There's almost no middle ground, so a quick test settles it.
Is there a downside to stockpiling empty cartridges from the SCX-4725?
When you swap in a fresh SCX-D4725A for the SCX-4725, save the box — it doubles as the return package for the empty. Drop the spent cartridge into the box it came in and use the prepaid label if one was included. One small habit, and nearly every cartridge stays out of the trash.
