Yes, the ML-5015 needs both pieces to print: the MLT-D307S toner cartridge and the MLT-R307 imaging unit. They live on very different replacement schedules, so don't swap them together out of habit. Will a cartridge labeled for a different Samsung printer fit the ML-5015?

Is there a point where shaking risks print defects on the ML-5015?

When pages start fading on the ML-5015, take out the MLT-D307S and give it a slow, level rock from side to side. The toner settles at one end over time, and redistributing it frequently buys dozens of extra pages. Reinstall and carry on — the trick is ancient because it works.
