Frequently Asked Questions

What does one cartridge cost the department per page on the SCX-3406?

About 2.18 cents. This MLT-D101S cartridge is priced at $32.73 and rated at 1,500 pages, so the division is simple — and it holds whether the SCX-3406 spends its day printing, copying or doing both, because every page on paper draws on the same fill.

Why might our SCX-3406 finish a cartridge well before 1,500 pages?

Coverage, almost always. The 1,500-page rating is measured with 5% of the page covered in toner — a normal text page. Pages carrying logos, shaded tables, photos or bold graphics can use two to three times that, and the cartridge life falls in proportion. Nothing is wrong with the unit; the rating and your documents are simply measuring different pages.

How can we check how much printing this cartridge has left in the SCX-3406?

Start with the output rather than a gauge: strong, even blacks mean fill remains; a general greying that a gentle side-to-side rock of the cartridge no longer cures means the end is near. If the machine reports a page count, dividing pages printed since the last change by 1,500 gives a rough percentage — rough, because coverage moves it.

Does scanning on the SCX-3406 draw on this cartridge too?

No. Scanning sends an image to a computer and uses no toner at all. Copying is different — a copy is printed, so it spends toner exactly like a print. On a machine that copies heavily, that distinction is where most of the cartridge quietly goes.

Does one cartridge type across several Samsung models simplify our stocking?

It does. The MLT-D101S serves the SCX-3405, SCX-3405FW and SCX-3405W, the SCX-3400F and SCX-3400FW, and the ML-2165W, so one spare on the shelf covers every machine on that list instead of a different cartridge per desk.

What cover applies to a department's cartridge?

The cartridge is warranted for twelve months, and returns stay free for twelve months — leak, streaks or an early failure and the unit comes back at our expense. The shipping and returns page describes the process; help is available Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
