Frequently Asked Questions

We print study packs and marked-up contracts all day — why does the yellow disappear so quickly?

Look at what is actually on those pages. Highlighter bands, sticky-note yellows, warning boxes, the pale shading behind table headings — a marked-up document is quietly one of the most yellow-heavy things a small printer produces, and unlike a photograph it does it on every single page. The CLT-Y404S in an Xpress C430 spends itself on exactly that kind of work, so a household or office built around annotation and review will turn over a 1,000-page color cartridge far faster than the page count alone suggests.

How long will one of these last in a home or study printer?

The CLT-Y404S is rated at 1,000 pages at the standard 5% coverage. A C430 that prints a few color pages a day — schoolwork, handouts, the odd chart — can stretch that across months. The same cartridge in a machine printing highlighted documents daily will be gone in a fraction of the time. Your mileage follows the color on your pages, not the calendar, which is why we suggest ordering a replacement when the low-toner warning first appears rather than when the shading starts to fade.

Is this the yellow my Xpress C430 asks for?

Yes — the CLT-Y404S is the listed yellow supply for the Xpress C430, and it also serves the Xpress C430W, Xpress C480 and Xpress C480FW. If the cartridge you removed carries the CLT-Y404S code, this is its direct compatible replacement. The black for the same machine is the CLT-K404S, and the cyan and magenta sit under their own codes in the same 404S family.

Can I keep printing once the yellow runs out?

For text, yes in practice: send the job as black-and-white and it is produced by the black cartridge alone, without drawing on the colors at all. It is the color pages that need all four supplies present and healthy — a document with highlighted sections will show the missing yellow immediately. Fitting the replacement is a two-minute job, so there is rarely a reason to nurse an empty color cartridge for long.

Is this cartridge sold in multi-packs?

No — this yellow is sold singly, one cartridge for $76.50, which across its 1,000-page rating is about 7.65 cents a page at standard coverage. That is simply the economics of a compact desktop color machine: small cartridges, changed one color at a time, as each runs down. Buying the single when the warning appears keeps the cost tied to your actual use rather than to shelf stock.

What warranty and returns cover this purchase?

The cartridge is covered by a one-year warranty against defects, and your purchase can be returned free of charge at any time within the first year — the terms are laid out on our shipping and returns page. If you need a hand identifying the right supply for your machine, support is available Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
