Frequently Asked Questions

The machine only holds one black cartridge at a time — what is the point of ordering two?

The second cartridge is a shelf spare, and on a shared departmental machine that is what keeps work moving. When the installed cartridge finally runs dry, the swap takes about a minute and the queue clears; without a spare, the copier sits idle while everyone waits on a delivery.

How much does the two-pack actually save compared with buying singles?

Two single cartridges would cost $110.26; this pair is $91.76, so you keep $18.50. Spread over the pair's combined 46,000-page rating, black output drops to roughly 0.20 cents per page instead of about 0.24 cents buying one at a time.

Are both cartridges in this pack right for our DSC545?

Yes, and to be straight about how these listings work: the pack is titled for the DSC545, but the cartridge itself serves the whole Ricoh Aficio MP C4503/C5503 platform — the DSC545 is the Gestetner badge on that hardware. The platform models are Gestetner DSC535 and Gestetner DSC545. Any machine on that list takes this black cartridge, whichever name is on its front.

Will the spare cartridge go stale sitting in the supply cabinet for months?

Not if it stays sealed. Keep the box closed, stored flat in a cool, dry cabinet away from sunlight and radiators, and the toner inside keeps fine for a long shelf life. Powder toner does not dry out the way liquid ink does, so a spare bought today is still a good cartridge when its turn comes.

How long will 46,000 pages of black actually last a department?

That depends on how hard the machine works. A department producing around 3,000 black pages a month — prints, copies, and fax output combined — would get roughly fifteen months out of the pair, while a heavier floor at 6,000 a month would finish both in about eight months.

Does the warranty cover both cartridges in the pack?

It does — each cartridge carries the same one-year warranty, and returns are free for a full year if either one gives you trouble. You can read the full terms on our shipping and returns page, and orders leave from whichever of our warehouses in IL, PA, GA, or CA gets it to you fastest.

About This Black Toner 2-Pack for the DSC545

At $91.76 for the pair — $45.88 a cartridge — it is built for offices that would rather lose a minute to a swap than a day to an empty machine.
