Frequently Asked Questions

Our reds are printing orange and faces look washed out — is magenta the culprit?

Very likely, yes. Red is built from magenta and yellow, and skin tones lean on magenta more than any other color, so a fading magenta cartridge shows up first as orange-leaning reds and pale, greyish faces — often while the machine still reports toner remaining. If black text is crisp and cyan-heavy blues still look right, magenta is the cartridge to change.

How many pages should we realistically expect from this cartridge?

It is rated at 15,000 pages, measured at about 5% coverage, and costs roughly 0.61 cents per page at the $91.68 price. Brochures, photo-heavy decks and full-color flyers run far above 5% coverage and will land well short of the rating; text documents with a color logo come much closer.

Which printers is this magenta cartridge made for?

It replaces the Ricoh 888638 magenta across the shared Aficio color platform — Ricoh Aficio MP C2800 and MP C3300 — and a listing may name either machine. Check your supply screen for 888638 in the magenta slot; if it is there, this is your cartridge.

What ordinary documents quietly use magenta in the background?

More than you would guess: red and purple elements in logos, pie charts, highlighted spreadsheet cells, and the machine's own periodic color calibration cycles all draw small amounts. That is why magenta can empty in an office that swears it "hardly prints any red."

Should we change magenta on its own, or wait and do a full color set?

Change it on its own. The three colors live independent lives, and swapping a healthy cyan or yellow early just throws away pages you already paid for. Order the magenta when output starts shifting, install it when the old one gives up, and let the other colors run their course.

How are we covered if the replacement magenta prints badly?

Tell us within the year and the return is free — the cartridge carries a one-year warranty and one-year free returns, and a replacement or refund follows the route described on our shipping and returns page. Support hours are Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM CST, and orders ship from our IL, PA, GA and CA warehouses.
