This is the black cartridge the 812 family actually lives on — in its high-capacity form. Our compatible T812XL120-S carries DURABrite Ultra pigment ink rated up to 1,100 pages (ISO/IEC 24711). Epson builds this family in three black tiers — standard 812, this 812XL, and a black-only 812XXL above it — and the XL is the tier the compatible ladder is built on: the one that keeps a wide-format printer fed between changes without paying XXL money.

A note on how this shelf is built, because it surprises people: we sell the 812 family in its XL tier. The standard-capacity codes (T812120-S black and its colour siblings T812220-S, T812320-S, T812420-S) and the black-only T812XXL120-S are listed in this page's specification area for reference, and every 812 printer accepts the tiers in the same slots — but the cartridges we stock are the XL ones, including the T812XL220-S cyan, T812XL320-S magenta and T812XL420-S yellow alongside this black.
It fits all four verified US models — WF-7310, WF-7820, WF-7840, EC-C7000 — and no others: not the WF-3820-class office printers, which take the separate 822 family in the US, and not the EC-C110, which runs 215 cartridges. The cartridge carries a new compatible chip; please read the firmware note in the questions below before ordering. Covered by our lifetime warranty, with free returns for the first year.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many pages does this cartridge print?
Up to 1,100 pages for the T812XL120 high-capacity cartridge, measured on the ISO/IEC 24711 pattern — Epson's published rating for this code. Real life varies with coverage, paper size and cleaning cycles; a 13" x 19" page uses far more ink than a letter page.
What is the difference between 812, 812XL and 812XXL black?
Capacity tiers in the same slot. Epson lists three black tiers for these printers: standard 812, high-capacity 812XL — this cartridge, up to 1,100 pages — and an extra-high 812XXL that exists for black only. Our shelf stocks the XL tier; the standard and XXL codes are named on this page so you can match them against the cartridge you are removing.
My printer came with standard 812 cartridges. Can I switch to this 812XL?
Yes. Standard 812 and high-capacity 812XL cartridges share the same slots in all four models — Epson lists both tiers for every one of them. You can also mix tiers by colour: an 812XL black alongside standard colours, or the reverse.
Which printers does it fit?
All four officially verified US 812-family models: WF-7310, WF-7820, WF-7840, EC-C7000. Each model takes the same 812 / 812XL code set, confirmed in Epson's own cartridge documentation.
Will this cartridge be recognised by my printer?
This cartridge carries a new compatible chip. If your printer's firmware has been updated, recognition issues can occasionally occur — Epson's own guide for these printers states that firmware updates may affect the functionality of third-party ink. Power the printer off, reseat the cartridge until it clicks, and restart before assuming the cartridge is faulty. We do not promise recognition under every future firmware version; if a recognition problem cannot be cleared, the cartridge is covered by our lifetime warranty.
Can I turn off automatic firmware updates?
Yes, and on these models we recommend it once your compatible cartridges are working: the setting lives in the printer's setup / maintenance menus and in the Epson software on your computer. It is optional — but it is the single most effective step against a future update changing how the printer treats a compatible chip.
What kind of ink is inside?
DURABrite Ultra pigment ink — the same ink family Epson specifies for the whole 812 line, in all four colours. Pigment ink is why these printers are known for smudge-, water- and fade-resistant document prints, including on 13" x 19" sheets.
Why does black empty first on a wide-format printer?
Text and line work. Most 812 printers live on documents, drawings and proofs where black does the heavy lifting, and even colour pages lay down black for text and shadows. At 1,100 pages the XL black narrows the gap, but it will still be your most frequent reorder — which is why it is sold as a single, and also inside the Set of 4 and the Set of 9.
A listing showed this cartridge for the WF-3820. Will it fit mine?
No — and that listing is mixing regions. In the US the WF-3820 takes 822 cartridges; overseas, the same machine is sold under the 812 name, which is where the confusion comes from. US 812 cartridges fit only the four models named on this page.
How do I install it?
Remove the old cartridge for that colour, take the new cartridge out of its pack only when you are ready, remove only the protective tape, and do not touch the green chip. Press the cartridge into the holder for its colour until it clicks, close the cover, and let the printer charge the ink before printing.
How should I store a spare cartridge?
Sealed in its pack, upright, at room temperature and out of direct sunlight. Do not open the pack until install day — the seal is what keeps the cartridge reliable. (A specific shelf-life figure is not published for this product; see Specifications.)
Is this a genuine Epson cartridge?
No — it is a Clever Supplies compatible cartridge built to the genuine cartridge's specification and code, labelled compatible on the box and on this page. It is not manufactured by Epson.
