Frequently Asked Questions

Why does this printer need a light magenta as well as a magenta?

Portraits and pale pinks sit where full-strength magenta dots show through as grain. The light tint lets the printer lay those tones smoothly — it is a core part of why this six-ink generation prints faces well.

Which printers take it?

Two: the Stylus Photo 1400 and the Artisan 1430, per Epson's own support documentation for the T079 code set.

How many pages does it yield?

Up to 810 pages on Epson's published rating for the genuine cartridge. Portrait-heavy work draws on light magenta faster than the rating pattern assumes, so your count will vary with what you print.

Light magenta or magenta — which one is empty?

The printer's level monitor names the position — check it before ordering. The holders are labelled LM and M; this page sells the light magenta (T079620-S). The full-strength magenta is a separate cartridge, also listed here.

Will it be recognised by my printer?

It carries a new compatible chip. This cartridge carries a new compatible chip. If your printer's firmware has been updated, recognition issues can occasionally occur, so reseat it firmly and restart before judging it faulty; a cartridge that still refuses is replaced under the lifetime warranty. Recognition is not something we claim is guaranteed in every case.

What ink is inside?

Claria Hi-Definition dye ink — the light magenta tint of Epson's six-colour photographic dye system.

Is a standard-capacity version available?

No. Epson lists all six 79 cartridges as High Capacity; the family was never made in a standard tier.

Faces look blotchy but levels look fine. Is this cartridge the problem?

Run a nozzle check and look at the light magenta pattern: gaps there match the symptom. A clean pattern points instead to paper settings or a profile mismatch.

Can the printer keep going with light magenta empty?

No — these models stop when any cartridge is expended or removed, the light colours included.

How do I install it?

Have it ready before removing the old one; peel only the yellow tape, keep fingers off the chip, press it into the LM holder until it clicks, close the cover and let the printer charge the ink.

Is it a genuine Epson cartridge?

No. It is a Clever Supplies compatible built to the T079620-S specification, labelled compatible on the box and this page; Epson did not manufacture it.

How much ink is in it, in millilitres?

We do not publish a figure, because Epson's documentation gives no verified millilitre value for this family — the Volume field stays blank. Compare cartridges on the 810-page published yield.
