In a six-color photo system, this is the bottle with a desk job. Our compatible T552020-S carries 70 mL of pigment black ink — the only pigment bottle in the Claria ET Premium family — rated up to 6,700 pages on the ISO/IEC 24712 pattern with Epson's methodology. It exists because even photo printers print paperwork: invoices, school forms, boarding passes, the odd contract. Pigment ink makes those documents behave — sharp edges, no feathering, and text that shrugs off water and highlighters.
The split is deliberate and worth understanding before you refill: Black (this bottle, T552020) is pigment and serves documents; Photo Black (T552120) is dye and serves photographs. They sit in different tanks, take different bottles, and neither substitutes for the other — the keyed EcoFit nozzles see to that physically, and the print quality would tell you anyway: dye black on plain paper looks washed next to this.

Is this the black or the photo black?
This is the document black: T552020-S, pigment ink. The photo black is T552120-S, a dye bottle with its own page. On this family the two blacks are different inks for different tanks — check the code, not just the color name.
Why is this black rated 6,700 pages while photo black is 7,300?
Those are Epson's published figures for the two positions (ISO/IEC 24712). Different inks, different test behaviour. Both numbers come straight from Epson's ET-8500/ET-8550 pages.
Which printers does it fit?
Two models: the EcoTank Photo ET-8500 and ET-8550 — the entire 552 family, verified against Epson's Fact Sheet and Ink Finder.
Can I use it in the photo black tank to save buying both?
No. The tanks are keyed by position, so the bottle won't seat — and you wouldn't want it to: pigment black on glossy photo work produces matte, bronzed shadows. Each black does its own job.
What is Claria ET Premium?
Epson's name for this six-color ink system: pigment Black plus dye Photo Black, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Gray. This bottle is the pigment member of that set.
Does it have a chip?
No. Bottles are chipless mechanical refills — keyed nozzle, auto-stop fill. Nothing for the printer to reject or for firmware to flag.
Documents look great, but why do my photos use a different black?
Photo paper wants dye: it absorbs evenly and produces deep, glossy shadow tones with the other dye colors. Pigment sits on the surface, which is ideal for text on plain paper and wrong for glossy photos. The printer routes each job to the right black automatically.
How much ink is in the bottle?
70 mL — the standard volume for every bottle in the 552 family, this one included (unlike the 512 family, where black is a double-size bottle).
Can I top up the black tank mid-way?
Yes, topping up the same family's ink is normal EcoTank practice. Don't mix families — 552 ink belongs only in 552 printers.
Storage advice?
Cap it, upright, room temperature, away from sunlight.
Is this a genuine Epson bottle?
