Frequently Asked Questions

The printer has four slots. Why does this set contain five cartridges?

So that the first cartridge to run out does not stop the machine. This set holds five cartridges drawn from the family's four part numbers — the 330-1436 black, 330-1437 cyan, 330-1433 magenta and 330-1438 yellow, each rated at 2,500 pages. Four go into the Dell Color Laser 2130; the fifth stays on the shelf as the immediate spare for whichever slot finishes first. On any real workload one slot always finishes ahead of the others, and the spare converts that moment from an emergency order into a two-minute swap.

What does the fifth cartridge cost us?

The five-cartridge set is $62.58 against $53.77 for the four-cartridge set — so the spare rides along for $8.81 more, and the average cost per cartridge drops from about $13.44 to about $12.52. Compare that with ordering a single cartridge later, at single-cartridge pricing and with a wait attached, and the arithmetic of the fifth cartridge explains itself.

Which slot is most likely to need the spare?

In most offices, the black — the 330-1436 does the text work all day while the colors wait for charts and handouts. But a color-heavy workload can put the cyan 330-1437 or magenta 330-1433 in front instead. That uncertainty is exactly why the spare exists as a shelf unit rather than a guess: whichever of the four 2,500-page ratings is consumed first, the replacement is already in the building.

How should the spare cartridge be kept until it is needed?

Sealed in its packaging, flat, at room temperature, out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources. A cartridge stored that way is ready the moment a slot empties. Keep it with the printer rather than in a general storeroom if you can — the person who hits the empty slot at 4 PM should not need a key, a ladder or a purchase order to fix it.

What cover applies to all five cartridges?

The same cover as the rest of the family: a 1-year warranty on every cartridge and 1-year free returns if one does not perform — including the spare, whenever it is eventually fitted. These are compatible cartridges built to the Dell specification for the 330-1436, 330-1437, 330-1433 and 330-1438, and the full terms are on our shipping and returns page.

Where does the set ship from, and who helps if we cannot tell which slot has failed?

From the fastest of our warehouses in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia or California. Support is available Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST and can walk you through reading a faded page — gray text points to black, weak blues to cyan, poor reds to magenta, dull greens to yellow. More of the family range is on our Dell toner page.
