Frequently Asked Questions

Why does our cyan always run out first?

Look at what most offices print: charts. Blue is the default first series color in nearly every spreadsheet and presentation tool, and blue bars, columns, and pie slices are nearly all cyan. Add hyperlink-blue document headings and the cyan in your MF653Cdw does a disproportionate share of the color work, while magenta (5100C001) and yellow (5099C001) sip by comparison. Early cyan depletion is normal for chart-heavy printing.

Does heavy chart printing change the pages I should expect?

Yes. The 067 cyan (5101C001) rating of up to 1,250 pages assumes light, even test coverage. A quarter-page blue bar chart on every sheet is far heavier coverage, so the same cartridge empties sooner. The $64.27 price works out to about 5.14 cents per rated page, and we present that figure honestly — with heavy charts your effective per-page cost rises, as it does with any cartridge in this class.

Can I stretch a fading cyan cartridge?

Gentle shaking can redistribute toner for a short reprieve on many cartridges, but it buys a handful of pages at best and the fading returns. For a printer like the MF653Cdw that produces client-facing reports, a fresh cartridge is the professional answer — washed-out charts look worse than a short pause to swap.

Do I need to change any printer settings after installing?

No. Seat the 5101C001 in the cyan slot of the MF653Cdw and print. If the first page still looks pale, print a couple more — a new cartridge sometimes needs a page or two to settle into full density.

What backing does this compatible cartridge carry?

One year of warranty and one year of free returns under the terms on our shipping and returns page. It is a compatible Canon 067 cyan, not a genuine Canon cartridge, and the year's coverage is the safety net that lets you evaluate it on your own printed output.

What are the other cartridges in this printer, for reference?

The MF653Cdw uses the four-part Canon 067 family: black 5102C001, cyan 5101C001 (this one), magenta 5100C001, and yellow 5099C001. Each is replaced independently as it empties — there is no need to touch the others when only cyan has run down.
