Honest answer first: is $64.27 a lot for a 1,350-page cartridge?

Yes — at roughly 4.76¢ a page, this is not cheap printing, and we will not dress it up as if it were. The 067 black is a modest-yield cartridge for a newer color series, and the per-page cost on this platform is simply high. What the price buys is the correct cartridge for your machine, on the shelf and ready to ship, with a full year of cover behind it. If rock-bottom page cost is your priority, that trade-off is worth seeing plainly before you buy.

How long will 1,350 pages actually last in a small office?

It depends entirely on how much you print. At around 150 pages a month — light correspondence and the occasional report — one cartridge runs close to nine months. At 300 pages a month it lasts roughly four to five months, and a busier desk printing 500 pages a month will finish it inside three. The 1,350-page rating assumes about 5% page coverage, so dense pages with heavy graphics will shorten that run.

Why does the black cartridge always run out first on a color printer?

Because most of what an office prints is black text — letters, invoices, forms and contracts. The color cartridges sit mostly idle while black does the daily work, so it is completely normal for the black to need replacing two or three times before any color runs low. On this series, black is the workhorse; the colors are the supporting cast.

Our prints have gone pale and washed-out grey — is the cartridge done?

Almost certainly, yes. Even, faded grey text is the classic end-of-life sign for a black cartridge. Take it out, rock it gently from side to side a few times to redistribute the remaining toner, and put it back; if the next pages come back darker, you have bought yourself a little time — but read it as a warning to order. If pages stay pale after a fresh cartridge goes in, the problem lives in the machine, not the toner.
