The printer only holds one black cartridge at a time — why buy two?

Because black is the one cartridge you are guaranteed to run dry mid-job. On a color machine, black carries almost all the everyday load — letters, invoices, paperwork — while the colors wait for the occasional graphic. The second cartridge in this pack sits sealed on the shelf until the first gives out, and the swap takes a minute instead of the days a reorder would cost you. No stalled print run, no emergency order.

What does the 2-pack actually save, in plain numbers?

Bought separately, two of these cartridges would cost $128.54. The pack is $110.07 — $55.04 per cartridge, a saving of $18.47 — with the same 1,350-page yield in each, so 2,700 pages of black in total. That also pulls the running cost down from about 4.76¢ a page to roughly 4.1¢. Still not the cheapest printing in the world, and we say so openly, but the pack is the better-value way to buy this cartridge.

How far does 2,700 pages of black stretch?

At roughly 300 pages a month, the pair covers about nine months of printing. A heavier desk at 500 pages a month works through them in around five to six months, while a light user at 150 a month may not open the second cartridge for the best part of a year. Those figures assume typical text documents at about 5% coverage; graphics-heavy pages use toner faster.

Will the spare cartridge go stale sitting on our shelf?

Not if it is stored sensibly. Leave it sealed in its packaging, somewhere cool, dry and out of direct sunlight — an office cupboard is ideal — and it will be in the same condition when you open it as the day it arrived. Avoid lofts, garages and anywhere that swings between hot and cold, and use the older cartridge first if you ever hold more than one spare.

Are these the right cartridges for my printer?

Both cartridges in the pack are the black 067, made for Canon imageCLASS printers that use the Canon 067 cartridge. Match the number against the black cartridge already in your machine before ordering; the color cartridges for this series use different numbers and are sold separately.

What happens if one cartridge in the pack turns out to be faulty?
