Frequently Asked Questions

The printer sits unused for weeks at a time. Will the toner go bad in it?

No — this is where laser printing quietly beats inkjet. Toner is a dry powder, not a liquid that dries out or clogs, so a Canon 067 black (5102C001) waiting in an idle MF653CDW does not spoil. When you come back to print, the cartridge picks up where it left off. Long idle stretches are a perfectly normal life for this cartridge.

How should I store the spare cartridge I am not using yet?

Keep it sealed in its box, lying flat, in a cool dry cupboard away from radiators and sunny windowsills. Stored that way, a spare 5102C001 simply waits until the day the installed one fades. Open the packaging only when you are ready to swap — the seal keeps dust and moisture away from the toner in the meantime.

When should I order the next black for an MF653CDW?

When the printer first warns that black is low. The warning comes early enough to order calmly and have the replacement on the shelf before the old Canon 067 truly empties. Because orders ship from one of our warehouses in IL, PA, GA or CA, the wait is short — and with a cartridge already in the cupboard, it disappears entirely.

Confirm the fit: which cartridge does the MF653CDW take in black?

The standard-yield Canon 067 black, part number 5102C001 — the cartridge on this page, specified for the Color imageCLASS MF653CDW. The same machine's colors are the 067 cyan (5101C001), magenta (5100C001) and yellow (5099C001). A high-yield 067H black (5106C001) is the alternative for a machine that prints far more.

How does the price break down per page?

$64.27 for a rated 1,350 pages is about 4.76¢ a page. That is honest, compact-color-laser economics: short-yield cartridges never win a per-page contest against big office toners. The compatible 5102C001 keeps the cost of staying in this yield class as low as it reasonably goes, and for low-volume machines the modest total spend matters more than the per-page figure.

What warranty stands behind it?

One year of warranty and one year of free returns, explained in full on our shipping and returns page. If this Canon 067 black lets you down under normal use, we put it right. Support hours are Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
