Frequently Asked Questions

This machine copies almost as much as it prints — how does that change cartridge life?

Copies and prints draw from the same cartridge in exactly the same way. The MF4890dw does not keep a separate supply for the copier side of its personality, so its rated 2,100 pages from this Canon 128 cartridge are spent by every printed page the machine produces, whichever button started the job. In a copy-heavy office — forms, handouts, records — that combined total arrives faster than a print-only estimate suggests, and planning spares around total pages, not just print jobs, is the habit that prevents surprises.

Two-sided originals through the feeder, two-sided output — what is the honest page count?

The MF4890dw's document feeder can scan both sides of an original, and the machine can print on both sides of a sheet — but the cartridge's rating counts printed pages, meaning printed sides. A two-sided copy of a two-sided original spends two pages of the 2,100 on one sheet of paper. Duplexing is a genuine paper saver; it simply is not a toner saver, and the cartridge will deliver its 2,100 printed sides regardless of how they are paired onto sheets.

Is this the right cartridge for the imageCLASS MF4890dw?

Yes — this listing is the Canon 128 black toner cartridge for the Canon imageCLASS MF4890dw, the wireless, duplexing multifunction at the top of its line, with a document feeder that scans two-sided originals. All of that machinery — feeder scanning, duplex copying, wireless printing — runs on this single cartridge. There is no separate supply for copying versus printing.

What is the straight story on $26.19 for 2,100 pages?

It comes to roughly 1.25 cents per page, and plainly, that is the highest per-page cost among the ways to buy this cartridge — multi-cartridge listings lower it for offices with predictable heavy volume. For an MF4890dw whose workload swings between quiet weeks and copy-room marathons, the single at $26.19 keeps the commitment small and the cost known, and many owners keep one as the guaranteed spare even when they usually buy packs.

My copies look faded but prints from the computer look crisp — is the cartridge at fault?

Probably not, and that split is the clue. Prints and copies share the same toner, so a dying cartridge fades both. When copies alone look washed out, the cause is usually on the scanning side — most often a document glass or feeder strip that needs a gentle wipe, since every copied page is read through it. Clean the glass first; if prints and copies are both pale, then the cartridge is the suspect and a gentle side-to-side rock will confirm whether any toner life remains.

What protection backs the cartridge, and how do I reach a person?

A 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns stand behind it; a cartridge that leaks, streaks or fails in its first year can be replaced or returned under the terms on our shipping and returns page. Orders ship from warehouses in IL, PA, GA and CA, and our support team is available Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
