Frequently Asked Questions

Why does this set have no black cartridge in it?

Because black runs on its own schedule. The 045HBK black is rated at 2,800 pages against 2,200 for each color, and plenty of printers are sitting on a healthy black cartridge while their colors fade together. This set refreshes exactly the three color slots — 045HC cyan, 045HM magenta and 045HY yellow — and leaves you to buy black separately, only when the black actually needs it.

What is inside the box?

Three Canon 045H color cartridges, one of each: 045HC cyan, 045HM magenta and 045HY yellow, each rated at up to 2,200 pages. They are the high-yield H versions, each individually sealed, so you can fit all three in one session for a complete color reset or hold one back as a spare.

How does the set price compare with the three colors bought singly?

As singles, the three colors at $33.64 each total $100.92. This set is $63.94, which keeps $36.98 — roughly 37% — in your pocket and brings the cost of each color down to about $21.31. If all three colors are aging together, and they usually are, the set is simply the cheaper way to replace what is actually wearing out.

Why do the three colors tend to give up around the same time?

They were probably fitted around the same time, and color printing draws on all three at once — cyan, magenta and yellow combine in nearly every colored element on the page. So while one often flags low first, the other two are rarely far behind. Replacing the trio together restores balanced color in one go instead of chasing a different weak color every few weeks.

Where does black come from when ours eventually runs out?

From its sibling listing: the Canon 045H black, code 045HBK, rated at up to 2,800 pages and sold singly and in its own multi-packs. Running colors on this set and black on its own listing lets each side be reordered at the pace it is actually consumed, rather than forcing both into the same box on the same day.

What cover applies, and how quickly can we get the set?

Each of the three is a compatible cartridge covered by a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns, handled per cartridge — one problem color never means returning the other two. The full terms are on our shipping and returns page. Orders leave from the closest of our Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia and California warehouses, with support available Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
