Frequently Asked Questions

The 045H costs the same $32.49 — so why does this standard cartridge exist?

A fair question, and we will answer it straight: on the numbers alone, the high-yield cartridge wins. This standard Canon 045 black is rated at 1,400 pages — about 2.32 cents a page — while the Canon 045H (045HBK) is rated at 2,800 pages for the identical $32.49. This listing exists because some owners specifically want the standard-yield cartridge their printer was supplied with, and because very light users can take a year to finish even 1,400 pages. If you print every week, we would point you to the 045H; if you want the standard 045, this is it, honestly labelled.

How long does 1,400 pages last a light user?

Longer than most people expect. At 100 pages a month — a typical home printer's workload — one cartridge lasts around fourteen months. At 50 pages a month it can stretch past two years. The 1,400-page rating is measured at the standard 5% page coverage, so those timelines assume ordinary documents; a household printing mostly text will land close to them.

What exactly is the difference between Canon 045 and Canon 045H?

Yield class. The Canon 045 family comes in two fills for the same printers: this standard 045, rated at 1,400 pages in black, and the high-yield Canon 045H — the 045HBK — rated at 2,800 pages. Same cartridge family, same home in the machine, double the toner in the H version. The code to look for is on the cartridge label: plain 045 for the standard, 045H or 045HBK for the high-yield.

Which printers take the standard Canon 045?

The ImageClass LBP612Cdw, ImageClass MF632Cdw and ImageClass MF634Cdw — the same three machines that take the 045H, since the two versions share one cartridge family. If your printer currently runs any Canon 045 cartridge, this standard black is a like-for-like replacement for a standard black. This listing is black only; the standard-yield colors are listed separately.

Is this a genuine Canon cartridge?

No — it is a compatible Canon 045, built to the standard cartridge's specification by a third-party manufacturer rather than by Canon, which is what keeps it at $32.49. It carries the same protection as everything else we sell: a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns, covered in the next answer. We label our compatibles plainly, because the value only works if the description is honest.

What cover does it come with?

A 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns. If the cartridge misbehaves within the year — or you meant to order the 045H and this arrives unopened — returning it costs you nothing. The full terms are on our shipping and returns page, and our support team answers Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.

About This Canon 045 Black Cartridge
