Will my printer recognize this compatible cartridge?

This cartridge carries a new compatible chip. If your printer's firmware has been updated, recognition issues can occasionally occur — remove the cartridge, check that the green chip contact is clean and untouched, reseat it firmly, and restart the printer. Brother's own "Cannot Detect" guidance for this family starts from the same chip check. We do not claim guaranteed recognition on every firmware version; if a cartridge still will not register, the lifetime warranty covers it.

When does the set make more sense than singles?

When two or more colors run low together, when a printer returns to service after sitting idle, or as the shelf spare for a small office. If only one color is low, the honest recommendation is that single — sets are for resets, not for forcing a bundle.

Can I install half the set now and keep the rest?

Yes. Install the colors you need and store the remainder sealed and upright; open each cartridge only when its turn comes.

How does this set relate to the LC101 tier?

Nine smaller models in this family also accept standard LC101 cartridges (300 pages each). This set is the high-yield step up from that tier — double the pages per cartridge. We do not offer LC101 singles, so this LC103 set is also the full-set option for those nine printers.

Is there a bigger LC103 option for heavy users?

Yes — the LC103 Set of 9 (3 black + 2 of each color) suits black-heavy printing. On the eight larger models you can also step up to LC105 colors and the LC107BK or LC109BK black.

Are the cartridges in the set chipped?

Yes — each of the four carries a new compatible chip. Handle them by the housing and keep fingers off the small green chip contacts, as Brother's own guides instruct.

Is this a genuine Brother set?

What if one cartridge in the set is faulty?

The lifetime warranty covers each cartridge individually — a single faulty cartridge is replaced on its own; the set does not go back as a unit. Free returns apply within the first year.

Why no LC101 set or LC109 set on this page?

Our source range for this family is built on the LC103 tier and the LC105/LC107 super-high tier. There is no LC109BK compatible in that range — Brother's largest-group black is sold there as an original only — so no set built around it is offered here.
