Frequently Asked Questions

Our SCX-4705 sits in a family office — how far does a box of five cartridges stretch?

Each MLT-D103L in the box is rated at 2,500 pages, so the five together hold 12,500 pages of printing. A household office turning out a few hundred pages a month can run well over two years on this one box, while a busier desk at 800 pages a month would work through it in around fifteen months. Either way, toner stops being something anyone has to think about between orders.

Do the copies we make on the SCX-4705 come out of the same toner as our prints?

Yes — a copy is a printed page as far as the cartridge is concerned, and it draws toner in exactly the same way. Scanning a document to a file, by contrast, uses no toner at all. If your SCX-4705 spends half its life copying school forms and contracts, count those pages against the same 2,500-page rating as your prints.

What does this pack do to the price of each cartridge?

Bought one at a time, this cartridge is $35.06. Inside the five-pack the same unit works out to $20.27, so the box at $101.34 saves $73.96 against five separate purchases. The per-page figure falls with it, from about 1.4 cents to roughly 0.81 cents a page.

How should the four spare cartridges be kept until their turn comes?

Leave them sealed in their bags, stored flat in a cool, dry cupboard away from radiators and direct sun. Fit them in the order they sit in the box — oldest stock first — and a stored cartridge will print like a fresh one when its turn arrives. There is no practical use-by clock on an unopened unit.

One cartridge from the middle of the pack prints pale — what happens then?

Cover runs per cartridge, not per order. A faulty unit can be sent back on its own while the rest of the pack stays in service: each cartridge carries a one-year warranty with a year of free returns, and the process is set out on the shipping and returns page. You are never asked to return the whole box because one unit misbehaves.

Which other machines can draw from this same stock of cartridges?

The MLT-D103L is the shared cartridge for a small family of machines, so the box can also feed the ML-2950ND, ML-2955DW and ML-2955ND printers and the SCX-4729FD multifunction, as well as your SCX-4705. Homes and offices running two of these models keep one box on the shelf and take from it as either machine runs dry.
