Frequently Asked Questions

Our SCX-4701 copies as much as it prints — do copies draw on this cartridge too?

Yes. A copy is a printed page as far as the machine is concerned: the SCX-4701 scans the original, then prints it using the same MLT-D103L toner as any document sent from a computer. Scanning on its own — saving an image to a file — uses no toner at all. So the cartridge's 2,500-page rating is spent by prints and copies together, and a copy-heavy desk will finish a cartridge sooner than the print count alone suggests.

How many pages should I plan on from one cartridge?

Plan on 2,500 pages of combined output at ordinary coverage — every printed or copied page counting once. An office making 400 prints and copies a month gets about six months from one cartridge; a quieter machine, the best part of a year. Dense originals copied often pull the figure down somewhat, as they would with any toner cartridge.

What does a page cost on the SCX-4701 with this cartridge?

Roughly 1.4 cents, whether the page was printed or copied: the cartridge is $35.06 against a 2,500-page rating. That is the high-yield figure for this machine — the standard-yield MLT-D103S carries 1,500 pages and works out more expensive on every page the SCX-4701 produces.

What are the signs that the cartridge is finishing?

Output fading — copies coming out noticeably lighter than the originals is often the first place it shows, because copies expose weak density clearly. Rock the cartridge gently side to side to redistribute the toner and output usually recovers for a while; when the fade is back within a few dozen pages, the cartridge is at its end.

Which cartridge number does the SCX-4701 take?

The high-yield black is the MLT-D103L, the cartridge in this listing — the code is printed on the label of the unit you remove. The standard-yield MLT-D103S fits the same machine with a smaller fill, so matching the code is how you keep the 2,500-page rating you are paying for.

What cover comes with this cartridge?

It is backed for a full year: a one-year warranty, and returns free of charge across the same twelve months if the cartridge leaks, streaks or fails early. The full terms sit on the shipping and returns page. Orders leave from our warehouses in IL, PA, GA or CA, and help is available Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
