Frequently Asked Questions

The low-toner warning just appeared on our ML-2851NDL - how much printing is really left?

More than the warning suggests, but less than you would like. The alert fires with a reserve still in the cartridge, deliberately, so a replacement can be ordered before the machine runs dry. Gentle rocking of the ML-D2850B from side to side redistributes what toner remains and often restores even printing for a while - after that, fading down one side is the honest signal that the 5,000 pages are spent.

Our documents are dense forms with shaded boxes - will we really see 5,000 pages?

Probably not, and that is true of any cartridge rated this way. The 5,000-page figure is measured on standard test pages with light coverage; shaded boxes and bold form fields can lay down several times that toner per sheet. On dense paperwork, expect a noticeably shorter run from this ML-D2850B and budget the reorder point earlier - the yield rating compares cartridges fairly, it does not predict form-heavy offices.

This is the B cartridge - what would the A version give us instead?

The ML-D2850A is the standard-fill sibling: same cartridge shape, same fitting, less toner inside. It suits an ML-2851NDL that prints in occasional bursts, where a cartridge might sit for long stretches. This ML-D2850B high-yield fill is the better arithmetic for regular use - more pages between changes and a lower cost per page at about 1.06 cents.

Which printers does this cartridge fit?

It is made for the ML-2851NDL in this listing, and the same cartridge is listed for the ML-2850, ML-2850D, ML-2850DR and ML-2851ND as well. If the office keeps more than one of those models, a shelf of ML-D2850B cartridges covers all of them - one part number to remember, whichever machine runs low first.

What cover comes with the cartridge?

Two separate promises: a one-year warranty on the cartridge itself, and free returns for a full year if it turns out to be the wrong item or arrives faulty. Keep the box until the first prints have run - if the opening pages show a defect, the return route described on our shipping and returns page is the one to follow.

How should a spare be kept so it is ready when the warning turns urgent?

Sealed in its bag, lying flat, somewhere cool and out of sunlight - a supplies drawer beats the top of a warm cabinet. Kept that way, a spare ML-D2850B waits patiently until the day the ML-2851NDL asks for it. When the swap comes, give the new cartridge a gentle side-to-side rock before fitting it so the toner sits level from the first page.
