Frequently Asked Questions

At a home-office pace, how long does one of these cartridges keep an ML-1865W going?

Longer than most owners expect. The MLT-D104S is rated at 1,500 pages; a home office printing 150 pages a month — a steady trickle of letters, returns labels and documents — takes around ten months to finish one. Even doubling that pace leaves you changing cartridges only a couple of times a year.

How do I make sure I am ordering the cartridge this printer actually takes?

Check the label on the cartridge you are replacing: it should read MLT-D104S. That code is the whole identification — if your old unit says it, this listing matches it. It is worth the ten seconds it takes to look, because Samsung's compact range spans several lookalike cartridges that are not interchangeable.

What does running the ML-1865W cost in toner?

This cartridge is $39.58 for a rated 1,500 pages, so toner runs to about 2.64 cents a page. There is nothing else to replace on a schedule — no separate drum unit — which makes the per-page figure the complete consumable cost of the machine.

Can I influence how long the fill lasts?

A little. Toner-save and draft modes reduce how much powder each page takes, stretching the cartridge for everyday documents; heavy graphics and full-page shading do the opposite. Normal correspondence sits close to the rated figure either way, so settings move the total by weeks rather than transforming it.

Which other Samsung models use the MLT-D104S?

The ML-1660, ML-1661, ML-1666, ML-1667, ML-1670 and ML-1675 printers, the ML-1860, ML-1861, ML-1864, ML-1865 and ML-1866, and the SCX-3200, SCX-3200K and SCX-3201 multifunctions — the full set is on our Samsung cartridges page.

What cover comes with this cartridge?

A one-year warranty with free returns for one year. Leaks, poor print or a failure well inside the rated life are all covered, and sending a cartridge back costs you nothing — the details live on the shipping and returns page. We ship from IL, PA, GA and CA warehouses, and support hours are Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
