Frequently Asked Questions

The whole team prints to our shared M203dw and everyone's pages have gone faint. What is wearing out?

Almost certainly the drum. On a networked LaserJet M203dw every user's pages pass over one CF232A imaging drum, so when its surface tires, fading shows on the whole team's output at once. If a toner swap did not cure it, the drum has done its pages.

How do I read the drum's remaining life on this model?

Print a supplies status page from the control panel, or open the printer's embedded web page from any computer on the network. The 32A drum reports its own percentage separately from the CF230A or CF230X toner, so the diagnosis is confirmed before you order.

Does two-sided printing wear the drum faster?

The drum works per printed page image, and a duplexed sheet carries two of those. A team printing double-sided spends drum life at the same rate per page — it simply uses half the paper to do it. The 23,000-page rating counts pages imaged, and the printer's gauge keeps the tally.

Will fitting a new drum interrupt the team's printing for long?

No. Whoever changes the toner can change the drum: toner out, old CF232A out, new one in. The printer recognises it, resets the drum count and rejoins the queue within minutes — a drum change touches none of the wireless or network settings.

Should a shared printer keep a spare drum in the office?

It is a sensible habit. The drum's gauge gives plenty of warning, but the day it truly fades is the day five people need it. With one CF232A on the shelf the swap happens the same morning, instead of the team's printing waiting on a delivery.

What support backs this drum?

It is covered by a 1-year warranty together with 1-year free returns. Parcels ship from our warehouses in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia and California, help is available Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST, and the shipping and returns page gives the full terms.
