Frequently Asked Questions

Does scanning on the WorkCentre 6505 use up yellow toner?

No. Scanning only reads the page — it lays nothing down, so a day of digitising archives costs the cartridges nothing. Copying is the function that spends toner, because every copy is a fresh print. Offices that mostly scan often find their 106R01596 lasts far longer than the copy-heavy office next door with the identical machine.

Why do copies look off-color while prints from the computer look fine?

When copies drift but direct prints stay true, compare one page both ways. If the printed version is also cooling — greens edging blue, warm tones flattening — the yellow cartridge is fading and both paths show it. If only copies are wrong while prints are perfect, the scanner glass or its calibration is the suspect instead, and a new cartridge will not change it.

Is the WorkCentre's yellow really the same cartridge the Phaser 6500 printers take?

Yes — the two model lines were built on one print engine, and both specify 106R01596 for yellow. That is why a single spare on the shelf can cover a mixed fleet: whichever machine calls for yellow first, Phaser or WorkCentre, takes the same cartridge from the same box.

How many copies should one cartridge be good for?

It is rated at up to 2,500 pages at 5% coverage, and copies count exactly like prints against that figure. A copied page of a colourful flyer covers far more than 5%, so flyer runs consume the rating quickly; copied letters and forms sit close to it. At $31.95 the rated cost works out near 1.28 cents a page.

The name says "Cartridges" — am I ordering a set?

No, this listing is a single cartridge: one compatible 106R01596 yellow unit for $31.95. The plural wording is catalogue series naming. A set would only make sense if several colors were low together — each color on this platform is replaced individually, as its own level demands.

What warranty and returns stand behind it?

A 1-year warranty covers the cartridge, and returns are free for a full year; details are published on our shipping and returns page. We ship from warehouses in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia or California, with support available Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
