Frequently Asked Questions

Does copying on the WorkCentre 6505 draw on this same cartridge?

Yes. A multifunction has one black cartridge, and everything the machine puts on paper — prints from a computer, copies off the glass, incoming faxes — comes out of it. Scanning is the exception: sending a page to email or a folder uses no toner at all. So on a WorkCentre, the black's workload is prints and copies combined, and this 106R01597 is the cartridge that carries both.

How far does one cartridge go in a machine that copies as well as prints?

The rating is up to 3,000 pages at the standard 5% coverage measure, and a copied page counts the same as a printed one. Offices that lean on the copier — contracts, forms, handouts — will walk through those pages quicker than a print-only office, which is worth knowing when you decide whether a spare belongs on the shelf.

What does each page cost from this listing?

The cartridge is $31.95, so across its 3,000-page rating the toner runs to about 1.06 cents per page — copy or print, the arithmetic is identical, because the machine draws both from the same supply. Heavy solid copies use more toner per page than the measure assumes; plain text copies sit right on it.

Is this the black only, in a color multifunction?

It is. The WorkCentre 6505 prints in color, but each color has its own cartridge, its own part number and its own listing; this box holds the black, 106R01597, and nothing else. Black is listed alone because text work — the bulk of what a multifunction produces — runs through it.

Does the same cartridge fit the Phaser models too?

It does — the platform shares its black across printers and multifunctions alike. The Phaser 6500, Phaser 6500N and Phaser 6500DN all take the 106R01597, just as the WorkCentre 6505 does. One code to remember for the whole range.

What cover comes with this cartridge?

A one-year warranty and free returns for a full year, per the terms on our shipping and returns page. We ship from warehouses in IL, PA, GA and CA, answer support Monday to Friday, 9 AM–5 PM CST, and gather the rest of the range on our Xerox toner page.

About This WorkCentre 6505 Black Cartridge

The multifunction's half of the story: a single compatible 106R01597 black cartridge at $31.95, rated at up to 3,000 pages, feeding every print and every copy the WorkCentre 6505 produces. And despite the plural in the listing's name, the box holds one cartridge — stated plainly, as it should be.
