Frequently Asked Questions

How can you tell it is the cyan giving out, and not another color?

Read the symptoms by what is missing. Blue on paper is cyan plus magenta; when cyan starves, blues slide toward red-purple and lose their coolness, while greens — cyan plus yellow — go muddy and yellow-brown. Skies wash out early. If reds and yellows still print at full strength, the evidence points at this cartridge, the 106R01077.

Could a fading blue actually be the magenta's fault?

It could, which is why the test page settles arguments. Print the machine's color samples and compare the pure bands: the pale band names the guilty cartridge. Guessing wrong means shelving a healthy cartridge and still printing bad color — two minutes with the test page is cheaper than either mistake.

The title says "Cartridges" — what is actually in the box?

A single cyan cartridge, $79.06, rated at up to 18,000 pages. The Phaser 7400DX changes one color at a time and this listing is for cyan only. The plural wording is how the catalog names the product line, not a quantity.

Which printers does the 106R01077 serve?

All Phaser 7400 configurations: the Phaser 7400, Phaser 7400DFX, Phaser 7400DN, Phaser 7400DT and the Phaser 7400DX this listing names, along with the 7400N. Suffixes mark factory options; the cyan supply is one and the same.

Why does the fade seem to arrive suddenly on a high-yield cartridge?

Because 18,000 pages is a long, quiet life. The cartridge spends months printing correctly, levels get checked less often as trust builds, and the first weak blues feel abrupt. Heavy coverage shortens the rating too — artwork and full-color pages pull far more cyan than the standard the figure assumes, at roughly 0.44 cents of cyan per rated page.

About the 106R01077 Cyan for the Phaser 7400DX

For the DX configuration — duplex with extra capacity — this is the one cyan it uses: a single compatible 106R01077 cartridge, $79.06, rated up to 18,000 pages. The listing is written from the diagnostic side: how to recognize cyan starvation in the output, prove it on a test page, and replace the right cartridge the first time.
