Frequently Asked Questions

The title says "Cartridges" — how many are in the box?

One. The plural wording in this listing's name is a quirk of how the catalogue entry was written; the listing itself is for a single black cartridge — one compatible 106R02228, rated at up to 8,000 pages, for the black slot of the Phaser 6600. If you need spares as well, the multi-packs in this family are the listings priced per bundle.

Why does the black cartridge on a color printer run out first?

Because office printing is mostly documents, and documents are mostly black text. The Phaser 6600 is a color machine, but its daily grind — letters, invoices, statements, reports — pours through the black cartridge while the colors wait for the occasional chart or letterhead. Black is simply the hardest-working slot in the machine.

What does a page cost with this cartridge?

The cartridge is $40.71 and rated at up to 8,000 pages, which puts the toner cost at roughly 0.51 cents per page. That is the high-yield figure: this 106R02228 is the larger black supply for the platform, built to stretch the interval between swaps.

Which printers take this cartridge?

It is the black supply across the Phaser 6600 line — the Phaser 6600, Phaser 6600dn, Phaser 6600n and Phaser 6600ydn — and it also serves the WorkCentre 6605 and WorkCentre 6605dn. The suffix letters mark out networking and duplex options; the black cartridge never changes.

Will my cartridge really reach 8,000 pages?

The rating assumes about 5% coverage per page — plain text territory. Offices printing dense forms, bold graphics or heavy coverage will see fewer pages; light correspondence can go further. Read 8,000 as the standard measuring stick for this cartridge rather than a guaranteed count for your particular workload.

What support comes with it?

A one-year warranty and one-year free returns, set out on the shipping and returns page. Orders ship from warehouses in IL, PA, GA and CA, support answers Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST, and the full range is browsable on our Xerox toner page.
