Frequently Asked Questions

Our C480FW copies color documents all day — do copies spend this cyan too?

They do. A copy is a print: the machine reads the original and then lays it down in toner, so every color copy draws on the CLT-C404S exactly as a color print from a computer would. An office that copies brochures, charts and marked-up documents in color can spend this cartridge faster on the glass than at the printer queue — copying is often the hidden half of a small machine's color bill.

Which jobs on this machine never touch the cyan?

Scanning, for one: sending a page to a computer file lays down no toner at all. Documents printed or copied in monochrome are another — those come from the black cartridge alone. And a received fax prints as a black-and-white page. What spends the cyan is color, however it arrives: color prints and color copies, nothing else.

Does this cyan fit the Xpress C480FW?

Yes — the CLT-C404S is the listed cyan for the Xpress C480FW. The same cartridge also serves the Xpress C430, Xpress C430W and Xpress C480, so it can be held as common stock across the platform. Its partners are the CLT-K404S black and the magenta and yellow of the 404S family, each in its own slot under the same cover.

How long will the cartridge last in copy-heavy use?

Shorter than the headline figure suggests, and it is worth being plain about that. The 1,000-page rating is measured at 5% coverage; a copied color document with photographs, shaded tables or a full-bleed chart can run at several times that coverage, page after page. A copy-heavy office might turn the cartridge over in a few hundred originals — which is an argument for ordering at the warning, not for doubting the rating.

What does one cartridge cost us, in plain terms?

The CLT-C404S is $39.41 for a rated 1,000 pages, about 3.94 cents of cyan per page at standard coverage, sold singly. Dense color copies cost more per page, mono work costs nothing from this cartridge, and the average across a month lands between the two. That is the honest economics of a compact color multifunction, and it rewards the office that keeps a spare.

What happens if the cartridge turns out to be faulty?

It comes back to us. Every compatible cartridge we sell is warranted against defects for a full year from purchase, and returns cost you nothing at any point in that first year — the detail is on the shipping and returns page. If you would rather talk it through first, the support team is on hand Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST, and stock is held across our IL, PA, GA and CA warehouses, so a replacement does not have to cross the country to reach you.
