Frequently Asked Questions

Our C480 mostly prints letters and invoices — why is the cyan level still dropping?

Look closely at those "plain" documents. The letterhead carries a logo, the invoice has a colored table header, the spreadsheet printout has charts and highlights — and every one of those elements is built partly from cyan. The CLT-C404S is not spent by color documents as such; it is spent a little at a time by ordinary documents, and over a month of office work those little spends add up to a steadily falling level.

What does the 1,000-page rating mean for an office like ours?

It is a measured figure, taken at 5% page coverage — roughly a page of text with a modest graphic. An office printing correspondence and reports will come in under it, because real pages vary: a letter with a logo might use the cyan of a quarter-page, a chart several times a letter's worth. Plan on the rating as a ceiling rather than a promise, and the cartridge's real life will never surprise you unpleasantly.

Is this the cyan the Xpress C480 asks for?

It is. The CLT-C404S is the listed cyan supply for the Xpress C480, and the identical cartridge also fits the Xpress C430, Xpress C430W and Xpress C480FW. Alongside it sit the CLT-K404S black — which carries the office's text — and the magenta and yellow of the same family, each in its own slot and changed on its own schedule.

Can we keep printing letters while the cyan is empty?

For plain text work, yes: send the job as monochrome and the black cartridge prints it alone, without touching the colors. Color pages are a different matter — without cyan the blues go pale and the greens turn, so anything that leaves the office should wait for the replacement. In practice most offices keep letters moving in black and fit the new cyan the day it arrives.

What does this cartridge cost to run?

The CLT-C404S is priced at $39.41 against a rated 1,000 pages — around 3.94 cents of cyan per page at standard coverage. That is the real arithmetic of a compact color machine: a modest cartridge, honestly rated, bought one at a time. Ordering when the warning shows keeps that arithmetic predictable and the printer in service.

What cover do we get with this compatible cartridge?

A one-year warranty against defects, together with free returns at any point during the first year — the full wording is on our shipping and returns page. If you need help, support is available Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST, and orders leave from whichever of our IL, PA, GA or CA warehouses is nearest to you.
