Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a 1,000-page cartridge actually last in a small office?
Turn the rating into your own arithmetic: an office printing twenty color pages a day works through the CLT-M404S in roughly ten working weeks, while one printing five a day may not see the bottom of it for the better part of a year. The 1,000 pages are measured at 5% coverage, so color-heavy pages shorten the run and text-light ones stretch it — but volume per day, more than anything on the box, decides the calendar.
The low-toner warning has just appeared — how much printing is really left?
More than the warning implies, but not much in planning terms. The warning is set to give you a working reserve — typically a few dozen color pages at ordinary coverage — precisely so a replacement can be ordered and arrive before the color actually fails. Treat the warning as the starting gun for ordering, keep printing, and the new cartridge should be on the shelf before the old one's output starts to fade.
Which magenta does the C480 ask for, and what are its partners?
The C480's magenta is the CLT-M404S — the code is printed on the cartridge itself, and it is the reference to order by. It belongs to the 404S set that runs the whole platform — the Xpress C430, C430W, C480 and C480FW — alongside the CLT-K404S black, rated at 1,500 pages, and the cyan and yellow cartridges, each changed separately as its level runs down.
We mostly print documents — why does the magenta level still fall?
Because documents are rarely as black-and-white as they look. The letterhead's colored logo, the chart in the report, the highlighted rows in a spreadsheet — all of it is printed from the color cartridges, magenta included, even on pages you would describe as paperwork. A C480 that never prints a photograph still feeds a steady trickle of color work through this cartridge, which is why the level moves in an office that insists it hardly prints in color.
Is it worth keeping a spare for a cartridge this small?
For this yield, yes — the whole logic of a 1,000-page cartridge is that it turns over more often than a big one, and the cost of being caught without one is a color job that cannot finish. The cartridge is sold singly, so a spare means one extra box on the shelf, kept sealed and dry. Fit spares in the order you bought them and the shelf never becomes a museum of old toner.
What protection comes with the purchase?
The cover is straightforward: a year's warranty against defects, and free returns at any point within that first year, with the detail set out on our shipping and returns page. Behind that sits a support team available Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
