Frequently Asked Questions
We print price lists and sale flyers on our C430 — why does the red always fade first?
Because a sale flyer is nearly a worst case for this cartridge. Price bursts, red banners and sale flashes are printed in a red that the machine builds almost entirely from magenta, at coverage many times the 5% the yield rating assumes. The CLT-M404S therefore drains in proportion to how much red you print, not how many pages — a hundred flyers can spend more magenta than a thousand letters. When the reds start washing out mid-run while the black text stays crisp, the magenta is telling you it is nearly done.
Do black-and-white pages use any of this cartridge?
No. A page sent as monochrome is printed by the black cartridge alone, and the three colors sit it out entirely. That is worth using deliberately: internal price checks, draft lists and proof copies sent in greyscale cost you nothing from the magenta, leaving its 1,000 rated pages for the customer-facing color work it was bought for.
Is this the right magenta for the C430, and what else takes it?
Yes — the C430's magenta slot is the CLT-M404S, and the same cartridge serves the rest of the platform: the Xpress C430W, Xpress C480 and Xpress C480FW. In the machine it works with the CLT-K404S black, which is rated at 1,500 pages, plus the cyan and yellow of the 404S series; each color is a separate cartridge with its own level and its own replacement moment.
How far does one cartridge go in flyer terms?
Honestly translated: the 1,000-page rating assumes 5% coverage, and a lively sale flyer can run at 25% or more on its red elements alone. Expect a few hundred dense flyers rather than a thousand — the exact figure follows your artwork, but the rating should be read as the measuring stick every cartridge is compared by, not as a count of the sheets in your tray. Light color use, by contrast, can carry the cartridge well past the rating.
Can we keep a spare in the drawer without it going off?
Yes. Kept sealed in its bag, stored flat in a dry cupboard away from heat and sunlight, a toner cartridge waits patiently — toner is a dry powder, not a liquid ink, and does not dry out. Fit the oldest spare first when the time comes. For a cartridge at this yield, one spare is the difference between a warning light and a stopped print run.
What happens if the cartridge turns out to be faulty?
You are covered for a year: the cartridge carries a one-year warranty against defects, and it can be returned free of charge at any time during that first year, under the terms on our shipping and returns page. Orders leave from our IL, PA, GA and CA warehouses, so a replacement is never far away.
