Frequently Asked Questions
Everything from our C430W has taken on a greenish tinge — is the magenta to blame?
Very possibly, yes. Color on paper is a balance of three ingredients, and magenta is the one that holds greens and skin tones in check. As the CLT-M404S runs low, cyan and yellow increasingly dominate the mixture: greens turn lurid, skies go cold, and faces pick up the gray-green cast people describe as looking unwell. The change creeps in over weeks, so compare a fresh print against one from last month — if the shift is in the color balance rather than in sharpness, this cartridge is the first suspect.
How can we confirm it is the magenta before we buy?
Print the machine's supplies information page and look at the four levels individually — the printer tracks each cartridge separately, and the magenta bar will tell its own story. A color test page helps too: if the red and magenta patches are weak while cyan and yellow print strongly, you have your answer. Both checks take a minute and neither uses more than a sheet or two.
The cartridge we removed is stamped CLT-M404S — is this listing that same supply?
Yes. The stamp on the old cartridge is its identity, and this compatible CLT-M404S is the magenta for the platform your C430W belongs to — the Xpress C430, C430W, C480 and C480FW. Its working partners are the CLT-K404S black and the cyan and yellow cartridges of the 404S series, each living in its own slot.
What does it cost to run?
The cartridge is $76.50 for a rated 1,000 pages — around 7.65 cents of magenta per page at the standard 5% coverage, bought one cartridge at a time; there are no multi-packs in this family. That is the honest running shape of this class of printer: an inexpensive, compact machine whose colors are modest singles, and the magenta is spent fastest wherever color photographs and graphics dominate the workload.
Three of us share this printer — why does the magenta vanish faster than we expect?
Because no single user sees the whole workload. One person's photo print, another's chart, a third's color letterhead — each job is small, but color pages from three desks accumulate on the same 1,000-page cartridge, and the level falls at the speed of the office, not of any one user. Shared machines also explain the surprise: the person who fitted the cartridge is rarely the person printing when it runs out.
What cover does this compatible cartridge carry?
Twelve months of warranty protection against defects, and twelve months in which returns cost you nothing — the wording is on our shipping and returns page. Support runs Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST, and orders are dispatched from our warehouses in IL, PA, GA and CA.
