Frequently Asked Questions

How long will one cartridge last in an SL-M4020ND that prints all day?

Longer than most supplies you will ever load into it. The MLT-D203U is rated at 15,000 pages, so an office turning out 500 pages a week is looking at roughly seven months from a single cartridge, and even a heavy 2,000-page week stretches it past seven weeks. That is the point of the ultra tier on a busy workgroup machine like the SL-M4020ND: toner stops being a weekly errand.

What does the printing actually cost per page?

The cartridge is $55.53, and spread across its 15,000 rated pages that is about 0.37 cents of toner per page at standard coverage. For a department tracking print spend, that is the number to hold onto — it already accounts for the yield, unlike the sticker price alone.

Is this the right supply for my printer?

It is the right supply if the front of your machine reads SL-M4020ND. That single ProXpress model is what the MLT-D203U is made for. Owners of other Samsung printers should read the code off the cartridge being replaced first, since the standard MLT-D203S, high-yield MLT-D203L and extra-high-yield MLT-D203E tiers for this platform are separate listings with separate codes.

Why does the page count feel shorter on report-heavy months?

Because the 15,000-page rating assumes light, text-like coverage of around five percent. A month of financial reports, contracts with dense tables or presentation decks lays down far more toner per sheet, and the count falls accordingly. It is not the cartridge underperforming; it is your pages asking more of it.

When the drum warning appears, do I replace this too?

No. The SL-M4020ND runs its imaging on a separate MLT-R203 drum unit with its own lifespan. Toner and drum expire on different clocks, so replace whichever one the printer flags. A drum at end of life can make even a fresh cartridge print poorly, which is why faded output after a swap usually points at the drum.

What happens if the cartridge fails early?

You are covered twice over: a one-year warranty on the cartridge itself, and free returns within that first year if something goes wrong. Details are set out on the shipping and returns page, and support is reachable Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
