Frequently Asked Questions

Why are these two black cartridges sold together?

Because on a production color machine, black is the cartridge that empties first and stops the job. This listing pairs two 42918984 black cartridges so one goes into the printer and one waits on the shelf — when the C9650 calls for black mid-run, the replacement is already in the building instead of on a truck.

How does the two-pack price break down?

The pair is $149.24, which is $74.62 per cartridge. Bought one at a time, the same cartridge is $83.87, so two singles would run $167.74 — the pair saves $18.50 and brings the effective cost down to about 0.41 cents per page across the two cartridges' combined rating.

How many pages do the two cartridges cover together?

Each 42918984 is rated at up to 18,000 pages, so the box holds up to 36,000 pages of black printing in total. Dense, graphics-heavy work on a wide-format machine will use toner faster than the test rating assumes; light document work will stretch it further.

Can I install one now and keep the second for months?

Yes — that is the normal way to use this pack. Keep the spare sealed, stored flat and out of direct sunlight and heat, and it will be ready when the installed cartridge runs down. There is no need to swap both at once; they are two independent cartridges, not a matched set.

Which printers take this cartridge?

The 42918984 serves the C9650dn, C9650hdn and C9650hn. Confirm the number on the cartridge you are replacing — the part number is a surer guide than the model badge, especially where several C9650 variants sit side by side in the same office.

Is this genuine Oki toner, and what backs it?

It is a compatible cartridge, newly made to the original specification rather than Oki-branded or refilled. Each cartridge carries a one-year warranty, and the order is covered by free returns for one year under the policy on our shipping and returns page.
