Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a 20,000-page cartridge last in a working department?

Longer than most people expect. A department printing 2,500 pages a month gets about eight months from one cartridge; at 5,000 pages a month it is roughly four months. The 12A6735 rating assumes standard 5% text coverage, and report-and-form work tracks close to it, so the page counter on the printer is a reliable way to forecast the change date.

What is the real cost per page?

At $169.69 for a cartridge rated at 20,000 pages, toner runs about 0.85 cents per page — the reason this platform stayed popular in cost-conscious departments. That figure is for toner only, but it is the number that dominates the running-cost comparison against newer, smaller printers whose cartridges cost two to three times as much per page.

Does this cartridge fit only the T520?

No — it serves the whole platform: T520, T520, T520d, T520dn, T520n, T520Sbe, T522, T522dn, T522n, X520, X520 MFP, X522, X522s and X522s MFP. The listing names the T520, but Lexmark designed this cartridge family across the T520/T522 line and its close relatives, and the cartridge is the same unit for each. If your printer appears in that list, this is its cartridge.

Is this the high-capacity version for this printer family?

Yes. The 12A6735 is the high-yield cartridge for the platform, rated at 20,000 pages, as against the smaller standard-fill cartridges also made for these machines. On any printer doing departmental volume, the high-yield unit is the sensible default: fewer change-outs and the lowest cost per page the platform offers.

How do I know the cartridge is truly finished and not just warning early?

The low-toner warning is an estimate based on coverage counting, and it usually appears with a useful reserve still in the cartridge. Print quality is the real test: when text turns uniformly light even after you remove the cartridge and rock it gently side to side to redistribute the toner, the supply is genuinely exhausted. On a shared printer, that is the moment the spare — if you keep one — earns its shelf space.

What warranty and returns back this cartridge?

It is covered by a one-year warranty, with free returns for a full year, under the terms on our shipping and returns page. Orders are fulfilled from our warehouses in IL, PA, GA and CA, so most US addresses see short transit times. If a cartridge ever fails early, one call or email starts the replacement process.
