This compatible T288XL120-S is the high-capacity black for the Epson 288 family: DURABrite Ultra pigment ink rated up to 500 pages (ISO/IEC 24711), close to three times the standard 288 black's 175 pages.
The cartridge carries a new compatible chip for ink-level reporting, and this family deserves a straight warning: this cartridge carries a new compatible chip. If your printer's firmware has been updated, recognition issues can occasionally occur — the XP-440 generation is documented among them. One practical note for this family: turn off automatic firmware updates in your printer settings where the model offers the option, and update deliberately instead — a mid-cycle update is the most common trigger for compatible-chip recognition warnings on these models. Its sibling colours are T288XL220-S cyan, T288XL320-S magenta and T288XL420-S yellow, each rated up to 450 pages.

Remove the cartridge, power the printer fully off and on, reseat the cartridge until it clicks, and try again. If the message followed a firmware update, that timing is the likely cause — contact us; the lifetime warranty covers a cartridge that will not perform.

Pigment — DURABrite Ultra in all four 288 colours, giving documents smudge, fade and water resistance once dry.
Can I mix this XL black with standard-capacity colours?
Yes. Each slot is independent; XL and standard cartridges mix freely.
Will a 220 or 822 cartridge work instead?
No. T220 and 822/822XL are different families for different printers; they do not fit or read in a 288 printer, however similar the shells look.
How much ink is in it, in millilitres?
We do not publish a figure: Epson's US documentation does not state an mL volume for this family, so Volume is left blank rather than filled with a reseller claim. Compare on the ISO yield — 500 pages.
Is it a genuine Epson cartridge?
