Frequently Asked Questions

We never want the MF628Cw standing idle — does keeping a full spare set actually work?

It is the simplest system there is: one Canon 131 set in the machine, one sealed set in the cupboard. Any cartridge the printer calls for is answered in minutes, and the moment the spare set gets opened, that is your signal to order the next one. No stock counts, no spreadsheets — the empty shelf is the reminder.

What does the spare-set habit cost against buying singles in a panic?

The set is $83.33 for four cartridges — about $20.83 each — against $34.70 per single, so a full spare set saves $55.47 every cycle. Panic buying also tends to mean express decisions at the worst moment; the set removes both the premium and the drama from a routine event.

Which cartridge will we reach for first?

Almost certainly the black. The 131BK is rated at 2,400 pages against 1,500 for each of the 131C, 131M and 131Y colours, and everyday office output leans heavily on black anyway. Expect the black warning first and the colours to follow spread out behind it — which is exactly why holding all four as spares beats guessing which one to stock.

How long can a sealed set wait in the cupboard?

Stored sealed, flat, cool and out of sunlight, toner cartridges keep well for extended periods. Rotate your stock — fit the older set first when a new one arrives — and the waiting set will perform like the one you just finished. Avoid garages and boiler rooms where heat swings are extreme.

When would a full set NOT be the right buy?

If the MF628Cw prints a handful of pages a month, a set ties up money in pages you may take years to use, and singles as needed are the honest recommendation. The set earns its place where the machine works weekly and an empty cartridge would actually interrupt somebody's day.

What cover do the spare cartridges carry while they wait?

Each one carries a one-year warranty and one-year free returns — full terms on our shipping & returns page. Orders ship from our IL, PA, GA or CA warehouses, and support is available Monday to Friday, 9 AM – 5 PM CST if a print problem needs a second opinion.
