Frequently Asked Questions

The cartridges that came with our MF624Cw are running out — is a full set the right first refill?

For most owners, yes. Machines typically arrive with reduced-capacity starter cartridges, so the first changeover comes sooner than expected and often all four colours bunch together. A full Canon 131 set replaces the lot with full-size cartridges in one order: the 131BK black rated at 2,400 pages and each colour rated at 1,500.

Why did the original cartridges seem to finish so quickly?

Starter cartridges are supplied part-filled so the machine can be sold ready to print; they were never meant to show the model's real running costs. The honest yardstick is the full-size rating — 2,400 pages for black, 1,500 for each colour — and that is what every cartridge in this set is built and rated to.

What do the four codes in this set stand for?

131BK is the black, and 131C, 131M and 131Y are cyan, magenta and yellow. The Canon 131 family keeps it simple: one code per slot, and the same four codes cover every cartridge this printer takes. With the set on the shelf, any warning the MF624Cw shows can be answered from stock.

What is the per-page picture with the set?

At $83.33 for four, the set averages about $20.83 a cartridge. Against the ratings that is roughly 0.87 cents per black page and about 1.39 cents per colour page — a calmer number than the $34.70 single price suggests, and the real reason a first refill bought as a set softens the running-cost surprise.

Only the black has actually died — is the set still a sensible buy?

Yes, if the colours are the originals too: they are living on borrowed time, and having their replacements sealed in the cupboard turns each warning into a quick swap. Fit the black now, keep the 131C, 131M and 131Y ready. Nothing about the spares degrades while they wait properly stored.

What if one cartridge in our first set prints badly?

Every cartridge is covered by a one-year warranty and one-year free returns under the terms on our shipping & returns page. Tell us what the page looks like — streaks, fading, a colour missing — and we will confirm the fault and replace or refund as the policy provides.
