Frequently Asked Questions

Does two-sided printing make this cartridge last longer in my MF4550d?

Not in the way most people hope. The MF4550d's automatic duplexing saves paper — one sheet carries two pages — but the cartridge's 2,100-page rating counts printed pages, and a two-sided sheet still uses toner for both sides. So duplexing halves your paper bill and your filing-cabinet bulk, while the toner itself is consumed page by page exactly as before. Expect roughly 2,100 printed sides from this cartridge whether they land on 2,100 sheets or 1,050.

Is $26.19 reasonable for a machine that turns out reports all day?

At a rated 2,100 pages, $26.19 comes to about 1.25 cents per printed page — honest framing: that is the highest per-page cost in this cartridge family, because singles always are. For an MF4550d that runs reports daily, the cartridge will cycle through in a matter of weeks rather than months, and the multi-cartridge listings exist precisely for that pattern. This single is the right buy when you need one cartridge now and prefer to keep the cash outlay at $26.19 rather than stocking up.

Is this the right cartridge for the imageCLASS MF4550d specifically?

Yes. This listing is the Canon 128 black toner cartridge for the Canon imageCLASS MF4550d — the duplex version of the MF4550 line. The MF4550d takes the same single Canon 128 cartridge as the rest of its family; the duplex unit changes how paper moves through the machine, not which cartridge it uses. One cartridge covers printing, copying, scanning output and fax printing alike.

Both sides of my pages are fading together — what should I check first?

When the front and back of a duplexed page fade at the same rate, that pattern points at the shared toner supply rather than the paper path. Remove the cartridge and rock it gently from side to side five or six times to redistribute the toner, then print a test page. Even, darker output means you have recovered the tail end of the cartridge; output that stays pale means the 2,100 pages are genuinely used up.

For a printer that never really stops, should I keep a spare on hand?

With an MF4550d in daily service, yes — a sealed spare on the shelf is cheap insurance against a report run dying mid-job. Store it flat, in its bag, away from heat and direct sunlight, and rotate it in when the working cartridge fades for good. An unopened cartridge waits patiently; toner is a dry powder and does not go stale the way liquid ink does.

What happens if my cartridge turns out to be faulty?

It is covered by a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns, like every compatible cartridge we sell. A cartridge that leaks, streaks or underdelivers in its first year can be replaced or returned under the terms on our shipping and returns page. Orders ship from warehouses in IL, PA, GA and CA, and our support team answers Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST, if you need help before or after ordering.
