Frequently Asked Questions

The D550 is shared over the network by several people — whose printing drains this cartridge?

Everyone's, and nobody in particular watches it. A networked D550 collects jobs from every desk that can see it, so its cartridge life is the team's combined volume, not one person's. A small group printing a shared 400 pages a month will finish a 2,100-page cartridge in about five months; a busier shared machine can halve that. The practical habit for a shared machine is a shelf spare and an agreement about who swaps it — the change itself takes a minute and needs no tools.

Does two-sided printing use less toner from the cartridge?

Less paper, not less toner per printed side. The duplex unit on the D550 flips the sheet so both sides carry print, and each side still uses the toner its content needs — a two-sided report simply puts the same toner on half the paper. Where duplex quietly helps a cartridge budget is coverage discipline: manuals and drafts printed double-sided tend to be read, not reprinted, and it is reprints that quietly eat yield.

Will this cartridge fit my imageCLASS D550?

It will — the imageCLASS D550 uses the Canon 128 cartridge, and this listing is exactly that, in black, rated for 2,100 pages. Match it against the label on the cartridge coming out of your machine: 128 out, 128 in. Because the D550 sits on a network, nothing about a cartridge change affects its network settings; the machine rejoins the shared queue as soon as the cover closes.

Is $26.19 the smart way to feed a shared machine?

Honestly, it depends on the team's volume. A single cartridge works out to roughly 1.25 cents a page — not the cheapest rate in this family — and for a lightly shared D550 that convenience is fairly bought. Once a team is changing cartridges every couple of months, the same Canon 128 in multi-packs drops the per-cartridge price substantially, and the shared shelf is exactly where a multi-pack belongs. Either way, you are buying the same rated 2,100 pages per cartridge.

Prints are streaking for everyone on the team — cartridge or machine?

Start with the cartridge, because it is the part you can test in two minutes. Pull it out, hold it level, and rock it side to side gently to spread settled toner, then print a test page from any connected computer. Even output again means settled toner was the culprit and there is life left. Streaks that land in the same place on every page regardless of who prints point back at the cartridge's own surface — and that is a warranty conversation, not a repair bill.

What cover stands behind a cartridge in a shared machine?

The same as every cartridge we sell: a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns, so if a unit fails early the team is not voting on who absorbs the cost. Full terms are on our shipping & returns page, orders ship from our Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia and California warehouses, and support is staffed Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
