Frequently Asked Questions

Nobody here noticed the yellow running out — until the greens turned blue. How?

That is the classic Canon 131 yellow story. The 131Y rarely announces itself: yellow is the quiet ingredient in most colour mixes, so an MF8280CW can keep printing while its greens slide towards blue and warm pages lose their warmth. By the time the shift is obvious, the yellow has usually been fading for a while. A fresh 131Y at $34.70 restores the balance in one swap.

How do I check whether it really is the yellow that has gone?

Print something with a patch of grass, a lemon, or a warm skin tone. If greens look teal, yellows look dirty and faces look cold, yellow is the missing layer. Black text staying crisp on the same page tells you the problem is colour-side, and among the colours, a blue-green drift points at the 131Y rather than the cyan or magenta.

How many pages should I expect from it?

The Canon 131 yellow is rated at 1,500 pages — the same rating as its cyan (131C) and magenta (131M) partners, and less than the black 131BK at 2,400, which is normal for a colour cartridge in this family. Photo-heavy and graphics-heavy pages use colour faster than plain documents, so treat 1,500 as the rating for typical mixed office output.

Is this an original Canon cartridge?

No — it is a compatible Canon 131 yellow cartridge, manufactured to the 131Y specification and sold under our own brand. That is what keeps a single at $34.70 while still being built to slot into the MF8280CW exactly as the original does.

Can I replace just the yellow on its own?

Yes, and that is the sensible way to run this printer. The four Canon 131 cartridges — 131BK, 131C, 131M and 131Y — are separate units, so you only ever buy the colour that has actually run down instead of replacing a whole set on suspicion.

What happens if the cartridge disappoints?

It is covered by a 1-year warranty, with free returns during that first year if it underperforms. Orders ship from our Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia and California warehouses, and our support team answers Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST. Full terms are on our shipping and returns page.
