Frequently Asked Questions

How far does one black cartridge actually go in an MF8280CW?

The Canon 131 black cartridge (131BK) is rated at 2,400 pages, and on a machine like the MF8280CW that figure is best read against your own document rhythm. A desk that turns out a steady run of letters, invoices and reports every day will feel those 2,400 pages as a few solid months of work; a printer used in bursts will stretch the same cartridge much further. What matters is that the rating is a real working number, not a best-case headline — ordinary text pages at normal coverage are exactly what it is measured on.

Our text is coming out grey instead of black — is it this cartridge?

Very often, yes. As the 131BK runs low, the first symptom is rarely a blank page — it is text that looks washed out, with bold headings losing their punch and fine print going faint at the edges. If colour pages from the same MF8280CW still look right while black-and-white documents fade, the black cartridge is the prime suspect, and swapping in a fresh 131BK is the quickest way to confirm it.

Is this a genuine Canon cartridge?

No. This is a compatible Canon 131 black cartridge, built to the 131BK specification and sold under our own brand rather than Canon's — which is how a single cartridge lands at $34.70. It installs in the MF8280CW the same way the original does and is rated for the same 2,400 pages of black output.

What about the colour cartridges for this machine?

The MF8280CW takes three companions to the black: the Canon 131 cyan (131C), magenta (131M) and yellow (131Y), each rated at 1,500 pages and each priced at $34.70 as a single. Black usually empties first in a document-heavy office, but when a colour starts to drift, replacing just that one cartridge — rather than the set — keeps the cost down.

How quickly will a replacement reach us?

We ship from four warehouses — Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia and California — so your cartridge leaves from the one best placed for your address and typically arrives within a few business days. If anything about an order needs a human, our support team is on hand Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.

What cover does the cartridge come with?

Every Canon 131 cartridge we sell carries a 1-year warranty, and returns are free within the first year if one lets you down. The details live on our shipping and returns page.
