Frequently Asked Questions

The blue bars in our charts print pale and washed out — software or toner?

Almost always toner, and specifically the cyan. Blue is cyan's home territory, so when the Canon 131 cyan (131C) starts running down, chart bars, headers and links are the first elements to lose their depth on the MF8280CW, while black text stays sharp. If the same file printed fine last month, the file is not the problem — the 131C is.

Why do our greens look swampy at the same time?

Because green is cyan plus yellow. A weak cyan starves the mix, and greens tip towards a muddy, yellowish cast while skies go grey and sea colours turn dishwater. When blue and green both drift together on an MF8280CW page, that combination is the cyan's signature — the yellow (131Y) and magenta (131M) rarely fail in that pattern.

How long should this cartridge last?

The Canon 131 cyan is rated at 1,500 pages, the same as the magenta and yellow in the family and below the black 131BK's 2,400-page rating. Presentation- and graphics-heavy work drinks colour faster than plain documents, so a deck-heavy month will shorten the real interval between swaps.

Is this a genuine Canon cartridge?

No — it is a compatible Canon 131 cyan cartridge, built to the 131C specification and sold under our own brand, which is why a single costs $34.70. It is made to install in the MF8280CW in place of the original and deliver the same rated 1,500 pages.

Can I swap only the cyan?

Yes. The MF8280CW uses four separate Canon 131 cartridges — 131BK, 131C, 131M and 131Y — and each can be replaced on its own as it runs out. There is no need to touch the colours that are still printing well.

What if the new cartridge does not perform?

It carries a 1-year warranty, and returns within the first year are free if it lets you down. Orders leave from our warehouses in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia and California, and support runs Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST. The details are on our shipping and returns page.
