MFC-J895DW Ink — One Family, Two Yields
Brother lists the MFC-J895DW for both LC3011 and LC3013, and the lists are identical — that is the point of this family. The Standard tier — LC3011BK, LC3011C, LC3011M and LC3011Y — is rated up to 200 pages per cartridge; the High tier — LC3013BK, LC3013C, LC3013M and LC3013Y — up to 400 pages (ISO/IEC 24711). A Standard and a High cartridge in the same color differ only in fill, so the tiers mix color by color in the same slots.
The MFC-J895DW shares its ink list with MFC-J491DW, MFC-J497DW and MFC-J690DW — four printers, one list, two tiers. Light printing suits the Standard tier; steady printing suits the High tier, which halves the number of cartridge changes. The tiers mix color by color, so there is no need to convert the whole printer at once. The traps to avoid are the same across the family: LC3017/LC3019 and LC3033 are different families that do not fit this slot, and “LC30134PKS” is not a verified Brother code.
Which LC3011/LC3013 should you buy?
- Light printing: Singles from the standard LC3011 tier — black, cyan, magenta and yellow at $9.74 each (200 pages) — the lighter fill, suited to occasional printing on this model.
- Steady printing: Singles from the high-yield LC3013 tier — black, cyan, magenta and yellow at $10.49 each (400 pages) — the bigger fill for owners who print every week.
- Full refresh or bulk: sets are built on the High tier — the Set of 4 ($35.94) and the Set of 9 ($72.77, 3 black + 2 of each color) — a full four-slot refresh in one box, or a stocked shelf in the other.
Chip, ink and everyday use
Keep spare cartridges sealed until install day on the MFC-J895DW, and rotate them in the order bought so no cartridge ages on the shelf. Each one carries a new compatible chip. With a compatible cartridge the printer may show “Cannot Detect Ink Volume” — Brother's support text says the machine keeps working with that message, so treat it as a display note, not a stop. All cartridges on this page carry a lifetime warranty with 1-year free returns. Either tier's spare fits the same slots.
