Brother MFC-J690DW printer

The MFC-J690DW belongs to Brother's Work Smart line, and its ink shelf has exactly two rungs: LC3011 Standard Yield and LC3013 High Yield, both built for this printer and its three siblings. The Clever Supplies compatible cartridges below are chipped and ready to install, with a lifetime warranty.

MFC-J690DW Ink — The Two Rungs of One Family

Brother lists the MFC-J690DW for both LC3011 and LC3013, and the lists are identical — that is the point of this family. The Standard tier — LC3011BK, LC3011C, LC3011M and LC3011Y — is rated up to 200 pages per cartridge; the High tier — LC3013BK, LC3013C, LC3013M and LC3013Y — up to 400 pages (ISO/IEC 24711). A Standard and a High cartridge in the same color differ only in fill, so the tiers mix color by color in the same slots.

The MFC-J690DW belongs to Brother’s Work Smart line, and the practical way to shop for it is to start from the code on your old cartridge. If it reads LC3011, its High counterpart is LC3013 in the same color — same printer, same slot, 400 pages instead of 200. If it reads LC3013, the Standard counterpart is LC3011. Sets exist only on the High rung (Set of 4 and Set of 9); the Standard rung is singles only in this range. Do not order LC3033 for this printer — it is a Tank cartridge for different machines, not an upgrade for this one.

Which LC3011/LC3013 should you buy?

  • Light printing: Standard singles — black, cyan, magenta and yellow at $9.74 each (200 pages) in the standard fill, for the lightest printing.
  • Steady printing: High Yield singles — black, cyan, magenta and yellow at $10.49 each (400 pages) in the high fill, for steadier printing.
  • Full refresh or bulk: sets are built on the High tier — the Set of 4 ($35.94) and the Set of 9 ($72.77, 3 black + 2 of each color).

Chip, ink and everyday use

Every cartridge on this page carries a new compatible chip. One honest expectation: with a compatible cartridge the printer may show “Cannot Detect Ink Volume” — Brother’s support text says the machine keeps working with that message. Keep spare cartridges sealed until install day. All cartridges on this page carry a lifetime warranty with 1-year free returns.
