The Brother MFC-J815DW XL is the XL variant — note carefully that Brother's list names this XL model only; the plain MFC-J815DW is not on the LC3033/LC3035 list. It runs the small INKvestment cartridge platform: LC3033 Super High Yield (black LC3033BK up to 3,000 pages; cyan, magenta and yellow up to 1,500 pages each) and LC3035 Ultra High Yield (6,000 black / 5,000 per color), all rated in accordance with ISO/IEC 24711. MFC-J815DW XL Ink — Small Platform, Two Tiers, No Cross-Fit With the A3 Machines
Brother's official list for the LC3033/LC3035 family names exactly five printers — and, notably, this MFC-J815DW XL is one of them while the plain MFC-J815DW is not. Owners of this model therefore shop from a two-tier shelf, and the tiers mix freely by slot. The standard refill is LC3033 Super High Yield: LC3033BK up to 3,000 pages; LC3033C, LC3033M and LC3033Y up to 1,500 pages each. The long-run refill is LC3035 Ultra High Yield, at 6,000 black / 5,000 per color. All ratings follow ISO/IEC 24711. In practice the choice is fill size: LC3033 for the standard refill, LC3035 when you want the longest run between changes.
Note carefully that Brother’s list names this XL model only; the plain MFC-J815DW is not on the LC3033/LC3035 list. The warning that matters on this platform is the platform itself: the large A3 INKvestment printers (HL-J6000DW, MFC-J5845DW, MFC-J6545DW and their siblings) post identical yield figures — 3,000/1,500 and 6,000/5,000 — but take LC3037/LC3039 cartridges with different bodies. Nothing from that platform installs in the MFC-J815DW XL, and nothing on this page installs in those machines. Similar-looking LC3017/LC3019 and LC3029 cartridges do not fit either.
