Frequently Asked Questions

Why keep a second TN420 on the shelf for a printer of this age?

Because the machines that take this cartridge — the HL-22xx printers, the MFC-7xxx all-in-ones and the IntelliFax fax machines — are famously long-lived, and a fair number of them sit on fax and reception duties where a stopped printer is a stopped phone line. A shelf spare turns a toner warning from an emergency order into a two-minute swap. For a platform this mature, continuity is worth more than the last cent of per-page cost.

What does the 2 pack save against two single cartridges?

$13.33. The TN420 sells singly at $68.41, so two bought separately cost $136.82; this pack is $123.49, which works out at about $61.75 a cartridge, and it is $49.40 under its own $172.89 list price. It is the first step on this family's price ladder — the 3 pack and 4 pack take the per-cartridge figure lower again for buyers stocking further ahead.

How much printing is in the pack?

Two cartridges at 1,200 pages each give 2,400 pages of toner in total. Both cartridges are the standard TN420 — the same genuine cartridge sold singly, with the same rating — so the pack changes the price and the shelf position, not the product. Fit one now and the second covers the following cycle at whatever pace your machine works.

TN420 or TN450 — which should I actually be buying?

It depends on volume, honestly. The TN450 is the high-yield sibling on this platform — 2,600 pages per cartridge on the same DR420 drum — and works out cheaper per page for anyone printing regularly. The TN420 suits light and intermittent use: the fax that hums rather than roars, the second printer that prints a few pages a day. This 2 pack is the light user's way of stocking the smaller cartridge sensibly.

Which printers does this pack fit?

The nineteen models built on the TN420: the DCP-7060D and DCP-7065DN; the HL-2130, HL-2132, HL-2220, HL-2230, HL-2240, HL-2240D, HL-2242D, HL-2250DN, HL-2270DW, HL-2275DW and HL-2280DW; the IntelliFax 2840 and IntelliFax 2940; and the MFC-7240, MFC-7360N, MFC-7365DN and MFC-7460DN.

How do returns and warranty work on this pack?

Both cartridges are genuine Brother stock, so the OEM terms apply: returnable within 30 days of delivery in all cases, with warranty cover from Brother's manufacturer warranty. The full wording is on our shipping and returns page. Raise anything with support Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST, inside the return window.
