Frequently Asked Questions

Why did the cartridge that came with our SCX-4726 run out so quickly?

Machines of this era were typically boxed with a starter cartridge holding a fraction of a full fill. This MLT-D103L is the complete high-yield unit, rated at 2,500 pages, so the gap between changes stretches noticeably. Most owners only realise how small the starter was when the first full cartridge keeps going long past where the original gave up.

Prints from our SCX-4726 have gone faint down one side — is the cartridge finished?

One-sided fading usually means the remaining toner has settled unevenly rather than run out entirely. Lift the cartridge out and rock it gently side to side a few times to redistribute the powder, then print again — output often comes back to full strength. If the fade returns within a few pages, the fill is genuinely spent and a fresh MLT-D103L is the answer.

How many pages should we honestly plan on from this cartridge?

Plan around the 2,500-page rating, which assumes ordinary documents at modest coverage. An SCX-4726 producing letters, invoices and schoolwork will land close to it; one printing dense handouts with heavy graphics will finish sooner, because dark pages lay down more toner. At $35.06 the rating works out near 1.4 cents a page.

Which cartridge number should we check before reordering?

Check the label on the unit you take out: if it reads MLT-D103L, this is the cartridge. The same unit also serves the ML-2950ND, ML-2955DW and ML-2955ND printers and the SCX-4729FD. Ordering by that code, rather than by the model name alone, is the surest way to land on the right box.

Is it worth paying for the high-yield version over the standard one?

For an SCX-4726 in regular use, yes. The standard MLT-D103S holds 1,500 pages against this cartridge's 2,500, so the L means fewer changes and a lower cost per page. The smaller cartridge only makes sense for a machine that prints a handful of pages a month, where either unit would sit for years.

What cover comes with this compatible cartridge?

A one-year warranty, with free returns across the same year if the cartridge leaks, streaks or fails early. The detail is on the shipping and returns page. We dispatch from our warehouses in IL, PA, GA and CA, and help is available Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST if anything is unclear.
