Frequently Asked Questions

The SCX-5637FN serves a whole corridor of desks — how far does one cartridge stretch?

Shared machines get through toner faster than their owners expect: at a combined 2,500 pages a month, one MLT-D205L rated at 5,000 pages lasts about two months. Every user's prints and copies draw on the same cartridge, so the corridor's total output is the number that matters.

What should the first pages look like after this cartridge goes in?

Even, solid blacks from the first sheet, with no pale band down one side. A faint first page or two can occur as toner settles; if output is still patchy after a dozen pages, reseat the cartridge — a properly seated unit should print cleanly straight away.

Why choose this over the standard-yield MLT-D205S?

The D205S carries around 2,000 pages in the same fitting; this MLT-D205L carries 5,000. On a shared machine that difference is the difference between changing toner most months and changing it a handful of times a year — and the per-page cost is lower as well, about 0.78 cents.

Our prints have started streaking — is it this cartridge or the drum?

Streaks that vary from page to page, or overall greyness, usually mean the toner is nearly spent. An identical defect repeating at the same interval down successive pages points to the MLT-R205 drum unit, a separate part that wears on its own timetable and is not inside this cartridge.

How much does the SCX-5637FN cost to feed, page by page?

With this cartridge at $39.02 and 5,000 rated pages, toner runs at roughly 0.78 cents per page. High-volume users can cut that to about 0.48 cents with the five-pack version of the same MLT-D205L.

What cover does the cartridge come with?

A full year's warranty, and free returns across the same year if the cartridge leaks, streaks or fails. The shipping and returns page explains how returns work; orders ship from IL, PA, GA and CA and our support team is on hand Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
