Frequently Asked Questions

A pale stripe has appeared down my ML-1865 pages — does that mean a new cartridge?

Usually, yes — eventually. A consistent pale band is the classic sign that the toner fill is nearly exhausted and what remains is no longer coating the page evenly. Rocking the cartridge gently can buy a few more days, but treat the stripe as your reorder signal: this MLT-D104S is the replacement, and fitting it restores solid black across the whole page.

For mixed letters and forms, what page count should I plan around?

Plan on the rated 1,500. That figure comes from standard test pages at roughly 5% coverage, which is close to ordinary correspondence and form printing. If your ML-1865 regularly turns out dense documents with heavy headings or shaded tables, expect somewhat fewer; for plain text, expect to land right around the rating.

How much does this cartridge cost?

$39.58, which over a 1,500-page life puts toner at about 2.64 cents a page. It is also the printer's only consumable — the ML-1865 has no separate drum unit waiting behind it — so that figure is the whole story when you are budgeting running costs.

Which printers use this cartridge besides the ML-1865?

The MLT-D104S is shared by the ML-1660, ML-1661, ML-1665, ML-1667, ML-1675 and ML-1676 printers, the ML-1860, ML-1861, ML-1864, ML-1865W and ML-1866 models, and the SCX-3200, SCX-3200K and SCX-3201 multifunctions. The complete family is listed on our Samsung range page.

The first prints from the new cartridge look uneven — what should I check?

Two things. First, that the cartridge is seated fully: open the cover, lift it out and slide it back in until it settles squarely. Second, toner distribution: a gentle side-to-side tilt before fitting spreads the powder evenly. Unevenness that survives both checks on the first few pages is not normal settling and is worth a call to support.

What warranty and returns cover comes with it?

Every cartridge carries a one-year warranty and free returns for one year — a unit that leaks, streaks or fails early goes back at no cost to you, following the steps on the shipping and returns page. We deliver from warehouses in IL, PA, GA and CA, and support is staffed Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
